National Squad Announced for Series Against West Indies

Shadab Khan, vice-captain of the national whiteball cricket team, has returned to the squad after recovering from an injury. 

A 16-member national squad has been announced for the ODI series against West Indies.

Lahore: All three ODIs in the series are part of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League. The matches will be played on June 8, 10 and 12 at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

The announced squad includes three openers, three middle-order batsmen, two wicket-keepers, three spinners and five fast bowlers.

Squad:

Babar Azam (Captain), Shadab Khan (Vice Captain), Abdullah Shafiq, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hassan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imam-ul-Haq, Khushdal Shah, Mohammad Haris (Wicket Keeper Batsman), Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (Wicket Keeper Batsman) Muhammad Wasim Jr., Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shahnawaz Dahani and Zahid Mahmood.

The series between the two teams will not be played in a managed environment, so the national selectors have reduced the announced 21-member squad against Australia to 16 players. Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Usman Qadir and Asif Afridi were not included in the squad against West Indies while Saud Shakeel was not available for selection due to sinusitis surgery.

The national squad for the series training camp will report on June 1 in Rawalpindi. Wicketkeeper-batsmen Muhammad Rizwan, Hassan Ali, Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf, who are busy in English county cricket, will also return home on time.

Chief selector Muhammad Waseem has said that since all the three ODIs against West Indies are part of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League, it has been decided to select the best available players. Most of the players in the selected squad have been retained so that they can perform better in this style of cricket.

He said that this series is not being played in a managed environment, so the players can be called in a short time if required. Asif Afridi and Usman Qadir were not included in the squad against West Indies as Muhammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan were fully fit.
