Asia Cup 2022: Holding on Time has Become a Headache for the Organizers

Asia Cup Holding on Time has Become a Headache for the Organizers

KARACHI: The UAE's hot weather has begun to hamper the Asia Cup 2022, while holding the tournament on schedule has become a nightmare for the Asian Cricket Council.

The Asia Cup is scheduled to be held from August 27 to September 11 this year. The hosting of the tournament was handed over to Sri Lanka many years ago but due to the busy schedule, first the Corona and then the tournament could not be held.

The tournament is scheduled to be held this year after a two-year delay, but due to the economic crisis in Sri Lanka and the ensuing situation and violence, the possibility of the tournament being held there has almost been ruled out.
However, Sri Lankan cricket board officials still want the tournament to be held in their own country as the transfer of the event could cost them up to 10 million.
The deteriorating law and order situation in the host country, the deployment of troops on the streets and the curfew have also troubled the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) officials. Sri Lankan Board officials have been contacted.
In this regard, BCCI sources said that J Shah had spoken to SLC President Shami Silva and Chief Executive Ashley de Silva on the phone, in which the situation in the country was also discussed.

It is expected that Sri Lankan cricket officials will visit India on the eve of the IPL final, where they will also meet J. Shah. The finals are scheduled for this month.
The biggest problem for the ACC is that the tournament is scheduled for the end of August.
It is even more difficult to move the tournament to any country other than the UAE because of the tension between Pakistan and India, the tournament cannot be held in these two countries and it will be very difficult for anyone else to hold the event on such low notice. ۔ The final decision on hosting the Asia Cup will have to wait until the end of this month.

"To be honest, we've been running this event since it started in September. We're proud that so many of you have come through and supported us as well," said Peter DellaVedova, managing director, WME/IMG Europe. "We believe these results will also help our organization's efforts to expand beyond international cricket." The World Cups are an annual series with 24 teams from around 55 countries competing over 15 weeks during November-March 2017 at five venues across seven continents. Each team comprises 18 players representing 12 nations including eight Aussies. Australia is represented by six Australians who represent 11 different counties while South Africa.

1. UAE's hosting of the Asia Cup 2022 this year was supposed to be just a stepping stone towards getting the ACC Asian Cup Council back to Asia. But that plan came crashing down in spectacular fashion as the AYFC organizers failed to qualify the event for the prestigious 2022 tournament. The event was initially scheduled to take place from December 27 to January 6 at the National Stadium. But the organizers lost out to South Korea for the right to host the finals after losing their qualifying group match against Japan on Wednesday night.
2. In the end, the ACC was not even granted the status of a qualifier by the ACC — leaving its future in doubt. The qualifying format changed drastically this year with Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Thailand and Vietnam taking part in the 16-team event instead of 12 teams. This meant that only four spots were left for the hosts.
3. Instead, Singapore could only send a team of under-21s to compete against other nations' youth squads. With the ACC lacking any meaningful games in front of tens of thousands of spectators, the whole event had been reduced to a glorified friendly between the U-21 team and the rest of the continent.
4. The ACC organizers are now talking about moving the championship to 2021 to ensure that they can get the ACC Asian Cup back again. However, the idea seems rather ridiculous considering how badly things went down for them this time around. For now, we'll have to settle for watching some football matches in Singapore again.

Since he was just chosen as captain of team's Olympic qualifying group, it does not seem like his numbers would make any sense in this capacity. His participation at the Olympics means there are no records and most likely very little information available to him about these decisions (which we all know include several other players). The same could possibly be said regarding some of the previous captains they have selected such Gao Yuehong from USA vs Australia where she made her way through with less than stellar results but nonetheless still managed win bronze medal despite.

1. Dubai have been drawn in Group A along with Australia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
2. The UAE finished last season second-last but are now ranked third in the ICC ODI Team Rankings, following their impressive showing at the West Indies tour.
3. The UAE were also given a tough draw after they failed to qualify for any World Cups from 2015 and 2017. However, this time around, they were given no chance of making it to the final round and had to face both India and South Africa in the group stage.
4. While the UAE are currently without a permanent head coach, they have called former captain Anwar Ali as technical adviser.
5. With just four matches left before the start of the tournament scheduled for September, the UAE need to win five out of these six to qualify for the Super League finals.
6. In that context, their performance against England in Abu Dhabi was a massive boost ahead of the first match against Australia on Sunday.

and its executive committee (ACC), which had hoped the World T20 would return in March 2018 as scheduled after last year ended at Melbourne International Airport, despite not being played or staged because of extreme rains during that month.
"The issues raised by us include travel delays; costs incurred due an inability ot pay our share against debt arising from ICC involvement overseas under contractual terms between 2013-2016 when this controversy arose," ACC chairman Narsingh Chatterjee said today. "With concerns having already been expressed regarding Qatar over previous cricket engagements it now appears time has come again."

by Adib Mamdani - Indian players will play in an exhibition match next week against their European counterparts that is scheduled at Kolkata from December 10-12. India qualified based mainly due out of last season's tour league but failed miserably during the ODI series with Sri Lanka which led them down to just 23 runs off six balls as they had conceded only 46 (46/6). But after losing two more ODIs through poor bowling performances and having missed most training sessions this year, there are fears about what it means if things don't improve quickly when Bangladesh returns home later tomorrow afternoon along side Pakistan and West Indies.
